Patience and Hope

June 17, 2026 Taught by Marty Himmel

If conviction is the belief we act on, then hope is the belief we wait on.

Luke 8:4-15

  • From planting to harvest takes time - patience is required over seasons
  • Goodness and fruitfulness require patience

Examples of patience:

  • Noah likely waited between 50 and 120 years for the flood
  • Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years between the promise of a child and the birth of Isaac
  • Joseph suffered slavery and imprisonment 13 years from the dreams to the beginning of fulfillment
  • Israel was enslaved for 400 years
  • Moses and Israel wandered for 40 years
  • Hannah went to the temple year after year before the birth of Samuel
  • Jesus started public ministry around 30 years old
  • The disciples waited 10 days between Jesus's ascension and Pentecost

Romans 5:3-4 - Patience is born from suffering and produces character and hope

Romans 8:18-25 - Hope in suffering requires patience

Galatians 5:22-23 - Patience is a fruit of the Spirit

Pray for all things, including patience - refusal to pray for something is refusal to trust God and depend on Him for it and trying to accomplish it in your own power
