Forgiveness

Matthew 18:21-35

  • Forgiveness is a continual choice and act
  • Compassion (pity) leads to forgiveness
  • Withholding forgiveness causes guilt and personal torment
    • "Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die"

John 21:15-19

  • Jesus's focus was on restoring Peter
  • Peter was living in his guilt yet Jesus showed compassion and forgiveness

Psalm 103:8-13

  • God deals with us and our sin with mercy, grace, patience, and love
  • From east to west is an immeasurable distance
  • Compassion despite sin

Colossians 3:12-14

  • Lasting forgiveness comes from a character of compassion, kindness, humility, and love
